National Service of Food Safety, Veterinary and Plant Protection (hereinafter referred to as the Service) is national service of the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia, which through relevant city and regional bodies of Abkhazian and Adjarian autonomous republics for a purpose of human life, health and economical interests observance, according to Georgian legislation carries out human and animal food products safety, quality, sanitary, hygiene, veterinary, plantations protection and agrochemical measures supervision, monitoring and state control
The above-mentioned service is the only body that is authorized to carry out supervision, monitoring and state control in the food products field.
While carrying out the activities the service follows to Georgian Constitution, International Veterinary Sanitary Code, Georgian Sanitary Code, Laws of Georgia about Food Products Safety and Quality, about Veterinary, about Plant Protection against Harmful Organisms, about Agricultural Quarantine, about Pesticides and Agrochemicals, about Water, about Licenses and Permits, about enterprising activities control, other legal deeds and regulations.
The service is responsible to the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia and fulfills its obligations established by legislation.
The Service is financed from Georgian state budget within framework of assignations granted to the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia.
